ARTIST+RUN is a commercial gallery founded by Angkrit Ajchariyasophon in 2016. We focuses mainly on contemporary and modern paintings by Thai selected artists. We aim to present highly aesthetic in concept and form.
The philosophical pillar of ARTIST+RUN is that we appreciate the plurality of ideas and the beauty of freedom of expression. As according to Isaiah Berlin (Russian+British philosopher)’s:
“If, as I believe, the ends of men are many, and not all of them are in principle compatible with each other, then the possibility of conflict—and of tragedy—can never wholly be eliminated from human life, either personal or social. The necessity of choosing between absolute claims is then an inescapable characteristic of the human condition. This gives its value to freedom as Action conceived of it—as an end in itself, and not as a temporary need, arising out of our confused notions and irrational and disordered lives, a predicament which a panacea could one day put right”.
Angkrit had founded Angkrit Gallery in 2008 in Chiang Rai, his hometown, after graduated in MFA from Chiang Mai University. He focused on the artists who refused the mainstream and the artists who were rejected by the mainstream. He called them ‘the shadow’ - that is, he believes if life needs light, it cannot refuse shadow. He moved to Bkk in 2016 and founded ARTIST+RUN in 2016. One year after, he then started ARTIST+FUN studio to present his own art practices and experiments alongside with his art dealer role.
For Bangkok Biennale 2018, ARTIST+RUN presents Tintin Cooper, a promising Thai artist who lives in London and Berlin. She works on paintings and mixed media. She grew up in 15 countries and could speak 7 languages. She investigate the plurality of identities in the modern world. In this exhibition, she creates the imaginary character who is an German old man coming to Thailand to discover some missing pieces.
